Exterior Remodel & Siding Replacement Project in Auburn, WA
This exterior renovation project in Auburn involved a complete upgrade of the home’s building envelope, including siding replacement, window installation, waterproofing, insulation, and trim work. The goal was to replace aging materials and create a modern, durable, and energy-efficient exterior.
Siding Replacement
The house originally had a mix of old cedar siding and vinyl siding, which had deteriorated over time. Our team removed the existing materials and completed a full siding installation using painted fiber cement lap siding from James Hardie.
We installed Color Plus HardiePlank lap siding (read more about Color Plus Technology in our article) together with Hardie trim boards and properly integrated metal flashings around transitions and openings. This siding system is designed for long-term durability and performs well in the Pacific Northwest climate.
Full Weather Barrier Installation
To improve moisture protection, we installed a continuous Tyvek house wrap from Tyvek across the entire exterior of the home before installing the new siding.
For the window installation, we used additional specialized flashing tape around the window openings to properly seal the frames and integrate them with the weather barrier system. This approach helps prevent water intrusion and ensures proper drainage behind the siding.

Window Replacement
The project also included a full window replacement throughout the home. Each window was installed following professional waterproofing and flashing procedures and finished with new exterior and interior trim for a clean, finished look.

Exterior Utility Improvements
To make exterior systems easier to maintain, we built custom utility boxes on the outside of the home. These enclosures keep service components organized while improving accessibility for maintenance and inspections.

Insulation & Air Barrier Improvements
While the exterior walls were open, we also improved the home’s energy performance by:
- Installing additional insulation where possible
- Sealing wall penetrations
- Creating a more effective air barrier
These upgrades help reduce drafts, improve indoor comfort, and increase overall energy efficiency.
Interior Trim Work
After the new windows were installed, we completed interior trim installation around all openings, providing a finished appearance and tying the window replacement into the home’s interior design.

Project Result
The completed renovation transformed the home with:
- Durable fiber cement lap siding
- Professional Hardie siding installation
- New energy-efficient windows
- Continuous Tyvek weather barrier
- Proper flashing and waterproofing
- Improved insulation and air sealing
- Clean interior and exterior trim details
By combining siding replacement and window installation in one project, the homeowner now has a more durable exterior, better moisture protection, and improved long-term energy efficiency.
